"If it's a good movie, the sound could go off and the audience would still have a perfectly clear idea of what was going on." Alfred Hitchcock

When in Rome...and left behind.

When in Rome

When in Rome
is the overly made classic rom-com, there isn't one plot 'twist' in this boring film that we haven't seen before in the MANY rom-coms that have come before this torturous rendition. From beginning to end the movie was non stop cliches and bad acting. Actually not really the actors fault though cause the writing was HORRIBLE! Like a bad Mary-kate and Ashley flick. Time after time the male counterpart to the beautiful Kristen Bell, Josh Duhamel explained that he really loved her...but again and again she would not believe him and run away. This happened the entire film and continued to get on my nerves. "He loves you already!" I wanted to yell at the screen. Not to mention the fact that the movie started quickly and moved too quickly for the rest of it. The story left no time for character development and before we even knew what was happening he was in love with her and the rest was history...well actually the rest was just her running away from him. Watching a movie is like taking a ride through a story with these characters who you can come to love and care about. But with this movie, it was as if the characters left without the audience and we are spending the whole movie trying to catch up. This movie was a sad attempt at a good idea and it's a shame that they weren't willing to take the time to make it better. I would give this movie 1 1/2 stars and only...no thumbs up. Sorry Rome...just didn't do it for me this time.

5 Thumbs Up!

Really fast I want to explain the whole 'five thumbs up' thing... see whenever I see the ratings on movies and they have only two thumbs up (which would only make sense seeing as we only have two thumbs) I always get the stars and thumbs mixed up and feel bad for those movies cause they only have two thumbs up and not five. It's funny that I know this about myself and yet I still think this EVERY time! So it's actually part of my ratings now to give five thumbs up instead of just two.

Sunday Favorites

It's time for my Sunday Favorites! Yay! Here's what the deal is...when we were younger my mother wouldn't let us watch anything on Sunday unless it was 'Sunday appropriate' which means anything musical, Disney, or anything that simply has a good message. Well... it also includes things like BBC originals, Jane Austin flicks, and definitely anything Hallmark. So here is what I will be doing; every Sunday I will write about a great Sunday classic, pretty much anything that would be fun to watch on a relaxing Sunday afternoon. And today's Sunday Favorite is brought to you by the wonderful classics of BBC.

North and South

The passion of the North, the romance of the South...Margaret Hale and her family are faithful patrons of the South, but when her father uproots her and her mother to move to the dismal and depressing, fast paced life of the North, they are nothing but shocked and saddened. Margaret loves the South and is hopelessly devoted to its dreamlike nature and fresh air. And when she is faced with the trials and cruel people of the North, she is ever more devoted to its romance. The Hale family is faced with challenges in the North that they didn't even dream of in the South, a horrible poverty that prompts outspoken Margaret to speak her mind to the unwilling listeners of the North. Margaret's judging words specifically clash with mill owner and master, John Thornton, who has worked his whole life to create this cotton kingdom and doesn't appreciate a stranger coming in and judging something they know nothing about. John Thornton becomes a pupil of Margaret's father and the tensions become high, customs are challenged, and life as they both know it, changes.
This BBC masterpiece is a delightful treat to the romantics at heart. (Which I am) The acting is brilliant along with the costumes, the overall story, and even the beautiful music. This movie is now a permanent part of my collection and will be watched over and over again. It can be the perfect part your Sunday! I give this movie five GOLD stars and five giant thumbs up! :)

Silver Screen Lover

When I was little I loved pretend, I would spend hours a day dressing up like characters in a movie, play acting things that were way too old for me to be thinking about...but ever since I can remember I have loved that wonderful world of make believe and daydreams. As such I am also I huge lover of movies! I plan to own as many movies as I possibly can. Just so I can have some small piece of that beautiful world of imagination.
I created this blog because I want to be able to talk about the movies that touch my heart, scare the crap out of me, take me to tears, and pull me into the emotional drama of imaginary characters. This blog will only be for that reason...nothing else. I will never ever reveal the end of a movie or any major plot twists...because there is nothing more rude than blurting out detrimental information about a movie when someone hasn't seen it. I will only critique and speak my mind about what I thought, whether the movie is worth owning or not. I don't believe that anyone will see this blog because it is nothing really important but if you do happen to stumble upon this attempt at critiquing I hope that you enjoy what you read. And that maybe something I say will inspire you to think about a movie in a new way. Ready? Lights, camera, action!
